You’ve mentioned you’re a fan of Feast For a King! Which character do you like the design of the best? There’s so many cool nonhuman designs.

Well before I talk about this comic at all, people will probably appreciate a warning that it is a comic full of gore and explicit sex, sometimes both at once, but it really is one of the best and coolest comics I have ever read, if not one of the best pieces of fiction I have ever known of.

It’s difficult to pick favorite designs with characters whose forms are so fluid, but I love how cartoonishly scary the Hekatons are when they loosen up their human guise

Pretty much all the worms are great, too, their sheer variety is tons of fun. I like how they can resemble absolutely anything depending on what they ate during their life cycle stages but it’s still just made entirely of fused parasitic worms. People probably think I always automatically prefer a full blown monster to a humanoid, but when a character can be both as they please, I think they end up enhancing the effect of one another. It’s fun to think some regular-looking guy is actually a scorpion bird octopus waiting to pop out and that his personality and actions are partially informed by that.

It’s also nice how themes of gender, sexuality and societal norms manage to be so important throughout the series without feeling “hidden” under layers of allegory, which is a common pitfall whenever fantasy beings are used as stand-ins for people. It helps, of course, that the series has fully human or ex-human characters as well, and that its nonhumans often still deal with realistic social problems entirely separate from, say, being made out of worms.

Even without great creature designs, worldbuilding and all that good character writing, though, just the sheer quality of its balance between drama and silliness would put it in my top recommended comics.

Also I appreciate that the author is capable of METICULOUSLY detailed, picture-perfect illustration work but gets FFAK out smoothly and efficiently with a looser, sketchier style that’s not only still pleasant to look at, but more inspiring as an attainable artist goal.

You don’t have to destroy your hands completely to make a great looking comic; you can just destroy them a little bit, and sometimes the result just has more personality anyway.

I always deeply appreciate with how thoughtfully bogleech writes about my work. ;u; Thank you again!
