How teens and adults text
Expectations:
Teens – wut es up! wut r u doing 2day? want 2 go & do sum stuff
Adults – What are you doing today? Want to hang out?
Reality:
Teens – Hey! What you doing today? Want to hang out?
Adults – wut es up! wut r u doing 2day? want 2 go & do sum stuff
MY MOTHER
This is actually true.
There is no African, myself included, who does not appreciate the help of the wider world, but we do question whether aid is genuine or given in the spirit of affirming one’s cultural superiority. My mood is dampened every time I attend a benefit whose host runs through a litany of African disasters before presenting a (usually) wealthy, white person, who often proceeds to list the things he or she has done for the poor, starving Africans. Every time a well-meaning college student speaks of villagers dancing because they were so grateful for her help, I cringe. Every time a Hollywood director shoots a film about Africa that features a Western protagonist, I shake my head — because Africans, real people though we may be, are used as props in the West’s fantasy of itself. And not only do such depictions tend to ignore the West’s prominent role in creating many of the unfortunate situations on the continent, they also ignore the incredible work Africans have done and continue to do to fix those problems.

I know what makes it 90s for me:
Ghost in The Shell and X-Men… those where the BOMB in the 90s.
She is basically Major Kusanagi with a hint of 90s Marvel Rogue.
I mean look at this, the hair cut, the jacket, the clothing, the neck-plug-thing… mind hacking, she is Motoko Kusanagi. And the the whole tight clothing with vest-length leather jacket is basically a perfect channeling of 90’s Marvel Comics fashion senses. We can be glad she is not covered in pouches.
You could easily just repaint her model into Rogue from the X-Men, but you would not even need to change her hair.
This design has some serious 90s going on right there.
ROGUE IS WHO I WAS THINKING OF mind reader.
Yes awesome, this is excellent.
(And it’s totally fine and great that she evokes these characters because the aesthetic of the game overall seems to riff off of our collective 90s nostalgia, in case anyone feels like interpreting this as hate)
In fact you could make a case for 90s nostalgia being inherently original and maybe even subversive. When’s the last time anyone looked back on 90s culture/media as a whole with any kind of fondness? Or at least, without embarrassment.
