here are the finished, printed cards that i presented to my d&d group this past may as a gift celebrating our one year anniversary playing together. i’m so happy with how they were realized and seeing the looks on my friends’ faces as the unwrapped them made this labor of love well worth it.

thanks again to all of my friends and a special shoutout to @adiostoreadumb, our DM, for being our DM and also photographing these for me.

If you’d like to view the art for the cards in its own post, you can do so here

the cards themselves are printed on a thick cover stock and laminated with a velvety soft finish. they feature spot uv on the back, adding a brilliant shine to the flaming heart.

subtlespell:

this past may, my d&d group had its one year anniversary since we all began playing together. so much has happened to me in the past year that i could not have made it through without them. the passion we put into our game and the stories we’ve crafted for each other have carried me through this time in my life, boosting my confidence, my creativity and my courage. in an effort to express just how important they are to me and how much it means that we get to come together every week and make something with each other, i gifted each one of them with a set of these tarot cards, featuring our characters as pieces from the major arcana.

i’m so proud to present our team, the fha’zemari featuring in order of appearance:

vidarok shi’fang, the half-orc barbarian as strength (@dave-matthews-band)

ywain hart, the druid as the hermit (myself)

brother caemon, the cleric as the tower (our DM, @adiostoreadumb)

the symbol of the fha’zemari- two open hands, palms cupping a flaming heart

galyn yllmae, the rogue, as the star ( @hannbuu)

pidgeon shelley, the ranger/cleric as the moon (@spookyvern)

larkspur fha’zemari, the warlock/paladin as judgement ( @inverts)

in may we all came together from across the country and i had the privilege of presenting these cards to them as physical objects. if you’d like to view the finished product, you can do so here

to my friends: i love you so much and i hope we have many many more years of laughing, crying, stressing out and making beautiful things together ahead of us

for some inexplicable reason over the past three years youtube has decided that this video has to constantly be on my sidebar, my end of video pop-up recommendations, my front page suggestions, literally everywhere the site could possibly lead me to click and watch it.

and i’m a sucker because it’s a banger – don’t @ me if you disagree – so sometimes i will watch it, and youtube will add that watch to my personal suggestion algorithm and the cycle continues anew.

boney m ‘rasputin’ is always there, will always be there. always suggested, always waiting for me to click.

dear diary, today the rasputin curse glitched for a brief shining moment and showed me this pure uncut heat rock instead of boney m in rayon and beard glue.

When Anne has a will, Anne hathaway.

I think we need to add her to the immortal list.

Confirmed. Likely a very modern one, due to her lack of period affectations. She’s just kicking this journey off and has plans for centuries.

Counterpoint, from @if-i-am-not-for-me, she was married to Shakespeare.  She’s just pretty good at keeping up with things.

Further counterpoint,

She’s still married to Shakespeare

Listen, in the build-up to the Civil War, one of the most powerful political forces in the United States was a trend toward moderation that advocated for a moderate amount of slavery, and they saw the abolitionists who wanted zero slavery to be “just as bad” as the planters and fire-eaters who wanted slavery everywhere.  This is the “house divided” that Lincoln was talking about; a movement that “rejected extremism on both sides” so that we would have medium slavery.

As it is, so it ever was.

Reading what people wrote about slavery back then had a big impact on me.  It was all too familiar how it was justified.

And liberals are perpetually trying to justify this stance with, “Oh, that was just the way things were back then, don’tcha know,”

and I’m just staring at them like

“John Brown having none of your shit” needs to be used more often as a reaction image on this site.

Every single depiction of the man looked like a meme template, even

Worth keeping in mind: when John Kelly said the civil war was started over a “lack of compromise,” he’s trying not to admit, “the South refused to compromise on the idea that slavery should be legal everywhere.”

The abolitionists were not a strong, solid majority. They were the extremists, the people saying “burn it all down” was better than a partial fix. And most white people (y’know, the only people who could vote) were content with “we could have SOME slavery, just… there should be limits.”

The South refused to accept limits. That’s the “lack of compromise” that kicked off the Civil War.

When some asshole Nazi wannabe tells you “look, both sides have some valid opinions; we should have more compromise,” know that what he really means is, “YOU should compromise; I should have the right to be as vicious as I want to anyone I wish.” And the people actually advocating for compromise? Again, they mean, “the bigots have been a big part of our history and we need to keep making them feel welcome. Their targets need to accept the gains they’ve gotten, and shut up about actually getting equality.”

So fuck compromise. Compromise only works when you’re starting from equal positions.

I don’t remember EVER learning about this dude, so I went to Wikipedia and this one sentence really resonated:

Historian James Loewen surveyed American History textbooks and noted that historians considered Brown perfectly sane until about 1890, but he was generally portrayed as insane from about 1890 until 1970.

Also I want to know if he ever had a grand, flowing beard like that or if the artist was like “No, he absolutely NEED a Moses beard. NEEDS IT.”

I know it’s because they’re morons, but it always amazes me how incels/mras/reactionary types always go on about how modernity and feminism has made evil, bitch modern women uniquely greedy and gold digging. If you honestly think the wimminfolk are focused on money now, how can you think that it would be better for non-rich guys back in the days when a woman and her family would have to seriously weigh whether or not a prospective husband would be able to support her and the children, because in most cases her own earning ability would be slim to nil. And yes, remember, this is back in the Good ol Days, when families had way more say in whether a suitor is accepted or not. It’s not like they’d do all the work of “guarding their girls’, virtue” to just plop her off with a broke social burnout; they would search for someone who’s be advantageous to the family (including financially), and they’d absolutely expect their daughter to do the same

‘i hate how women are just after your money these days because of feminism! we should go back to the days before feminism where they would die if they weren’t’

I’m not quite sure this is exactly how their logic works though. it seems to me it’s more like they hate the choice that women have now

in their minds, in the old days, a lot of women would still have to marry poor men. not all families had the standing or freedom to be choosy. and incel types seem to think there is a natural order of things: ugly women should marry ugly men, poor women should marry poor men etc. (plus the obvious Nazi opinions about race) and women having too much choice now (eg makeup allows ugly women to trick hot men, women making their own money lets them be independent) throws that out of the balance.

they seem to usually think women are naturally/biologically greedy anyway because of evopsych bullshit, so they don’t tend to think modern women are necessarily worse in that regard. instead, they think that women having more choices now has pushed their natural greediness into overdrive, so now even poor/ugly women have the nerve to think that they deserve guys ‘out of their league’ – which in their opinion is the reason they have nothing.

incels already see themselves as the poor pitiful dregs of society, they definitely do want to return to the days when ‘women would die if they weren’t after money’ bc they think a) being a shallow resource/gene seeker is biologically how women default are anyway and b) it would balance out and the women at the very bottom of society like them would be forced to settle with them or die

of course this isn’t how any of that works or has ever worked. they have extremely stupid ideas about what ‘bottom of society’ even means for starters. but that’s how they reconcile the logic mismatch u describe
